I just made a real life test for two mirrorless cameras, one with very good lens, one with kit lens. On the left is 16 MPx Olympus OM-D 10 MKII with 45mm F1.8 lens, on the right is 18MPx Canon EOS-M camera fitted with 18-55mm kit lens. Both are camera auto white balance and with no postediting except the same editing for sharpness in Lightroom (amount 43, radius 1). Canon is 88mm in full frame equivalent, Olympus is 90mm in in full frame equivalent. Below is a 100% crop from the same spot. As you can see smaller sensor with better lens knockouts bigger sensor with kit lens.
